Welcome

Hi and welcome.

This is the first post, it’s the one, the post which I will look back on later and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Here we go.

So what is this? Why am I here? Why are you here? What is the Matrix?
I will leave that last question for you to answer but let me try to answer the first three.

But first a little context. I like to learn. A lot actually. I seem to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. So to quench the thirst I like to spend time reading, listening, watching, tinkering. Here is a “fun” fact, did you know that YouTube has a limit on their “Watch Later” list? How do I know this? Well, I ran into it’s limit a few weeks back and I could not save any more videos. So yeah, thirst. (Unfortunately not enough time though but that is another issue.)

Taking in content means it needs to go somewhere. So where does it all go? Directly into my brain of course, hehe, but also several other places. Inside private notes, work (used in projects or sharing with colleagues and clients), and chats with friends (they love it when I spam share). I started to realize that although I save a lot of content for myself, I also have always enjoyed sharing with others. So I figured why don’t I just create a good place to share with everyone? And so here we are, me writing this first, ironically non-tech, post and you dear reader consuming it, on my website.

I realize that I still haven’t answered the question of what this is though, what exactly I hope to accomplish. Well, to be honest, I am not entirely sure yet. The only thing I know is that I want to share with you, all the interesting tech related things that I come across. Things, that spark something in me and that will hopefully spark something in you as well. Things, that make us think, about our selves, about our current way of living, about our society on this island of ours, and how technology might improve (or hurt) that.

I went a little deep there. I don’t want it to sound like I will only be sharing “deep thoughts and insights” because that is not exactly what I meant. There will be a place for those but there are also little bits of insights that can have a big impact if only you knew about them. Here is one. Did you know you could turn your iPhone keyboard (works with the Samsung keyboard too on Android) into a trackpad to move your current typing position just by holding the space bar? Go ahead, try it. I’m pretty sure that if you didn’t already know this, it was a huge revelation because it will make it so much easier for you to correct typing mistakes (there’s another trick that is even more obscure but I’m saving that one for another day). Even small things can have a big impact, but only when we find out about them. That right there is why I like to learn about new things but also why I want to share them with you.

So what is The Matrix, I mean The Codegrid? For an explanation of the name, see the About page. As for my vision, I see a place where I can share what I learned, about technological innovations like the rise of AI, it’s utility and implications and how it could be used in our society and government. But also simpler things like useful apps or the use of home automation. By sharing how I use tech from what I learned from others, I’m hoping I can open your mind to possibilities you might not have even thought about.

I plan on doing this in two places, this site and a Discord server. The site will probably contain a mixture of both short and long form content (like this post), e.g. “How to” guides, previews, reviews, etc. The Discord server will serve more as an extension of the site, where I will share a continuous stream of interesting links that I encounter every day. This is also the place where you can get in touch with me if you like (just send me a message). I am still in the process of configuring the Discord server but here is a link, The Codegrid Discord Server.

Finally expect things to change. The site (and Discord server) will most likely be getting some tweaks (or even entire redesigns), because, well, I like to experiment. But also, as I get a clearer picture of the type of content that I want to share, I will be changing the design to provide a better user experience. So by the next time you’re back (you will be back right?…right?), the site might look very different. But hey that’s innovation right? And if you love tech as much as I do, you are probably okay with change as well.

And so we have arrived at the end of the first post.
I made it, you made it, it was a journey.

If anything in this post sounded remotely interesting to you, make sure to drop by again so we can start exploring. I will be posting new content in the weeks ahead.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, no, I did not use any AI to write this, and yes, I did create a “Watch Later 2” YouTube list.

See you later…
